I am trying to find information on this portable 6 valve + 1 magic eye battery radio? Is it any good? I picked it up at a garage sale today.I will post photo tomorrow if needed.

I've never heard of a battery set with a tuning eye before. Then again tuning eyes were usually reserved for the high end/higher tube count table sets and consoles here in the US.

I'm a relatively Newb to vintage radio but I can see the valve construction inside the Lamp bulb? I will see if I can upload some pictures. The pictures were taken with a web cam sorry about the quality. The eye is on the right looking at the dial on the front. It can run off the mains as well as battery's.

Cool set!
The cabinet style resembles an American post war RCA design. I can't recall the RCA's model number off hand but might be able to look it up if your curious.

My guess for the eye would be a DM70 (1M3) or DM71 (1N3). They are still available if you do an Internet search.

Yes its a DM71(magic eye) Ive just realized its missing a valve 6v4 LOL. Is there any way to measure a valve with a DMM like a transistor?

No. you will need a tube tester. The only thing you can test is for filament continuity. They should be available on ebay or check your newspaper or ads for electronic test equipment.

Can't tell from that angle, but does it have a stack of plates with spaces in between? If so, it's a selenium rectifier. It would change line voltage AC to DC for use by the radio. If the radio hasn't been used much, it may still be good. If not, no problem: it can be replaced by a modern silicon diode which is very small like a resistor, and which costs only pennies.
