A loose base is a real minor problem. Be carefull about removing and replacing the socket and yoke.
There's a few of those around yet.

IIRC, the 17CDP4 has a 8.4 volt, 450 ma heater, where the 17CFP4 has a 6.3 volt, 600 ma heater.

OK, the odd voltage rings a bell, that tube fits these RCA sets then.
I had one rebuilt a dozen years ago by a guy in Texas, no longer in business though.
A spare is tempting but $99 is a bit more than I want to pay for a tube to sit in my closet.

I like those RCA tvs.. If i bought this tube, it would be a situation where a brightener would be a GOOD thing

You mentioned a loose base, the 17CDP4 doesn't have a base cap, it's a small neck high deflection angle tube so it's definitely not a sub.

I mistook the 17CD for another tube. There was a few types that used a 450 ma heater, that had the larger neck, 90 degree deflection.
