Matte Black on Teflon Knobs

I'm posting here as there really isn't a category for this problem.

I have a 2006 Hummer H3, that for a variety of reasons, still has the stock GM "Monsoon" sound system.

Unfortunately, the knobs and switches seem to be made out of something similar to Teflon(tm), and the original matte black paint has long since worn off.

I've tried permanent black marker, black matte model paint, black nail polish (bummed off my daughter), all to no avail.

Has anyone sucessfully repainted these knobs and had teh paint stay for more than a few months?

Thanks!

John

Can you scuff them with some steel wool, prime and then paint?

Might try http://www.mnrelectronics.com/defabu1.html and ask if they have those buttons. If not them I know there's a company that does sell those buttons, just have to search around. Been talked about on a Envoy-Trailblazer forum, same problem. The buttons on the Delco radio in my Trailblazer seem to be made of a white translucent silicone rubber so light can shine through, with a black coating that wears off.

Tons & tons of GM radios suffer the same malady...generally on the controls used most often. The junkyard may be the easiest source for unworn knobs & buttons.

Not a bad idea... Unfortunately, the zoning people have been closing many of the ones around here.

Have you not tried the company at the link in my prior post? It appears they sell entire faceplates with buttons for $50-60 for De1co radios.
