My friend picked up my sets yesterday. The Dumont was the most trouble not surprisingly. He said the lower chassis was only held in by one bolt so he removed it from the cabinet to lighten the load.
They should be here by the end of the month

Those Dumont "doghouse" "Telesets" are beasts! They are very unique and high quality sets though. I had one years ago and my only issue with it was that I could not watch a tape on it without about 1/4 of the top of the picture bending terribly. I later heard they are notorious for that.
Good luck with it though! It's a must have for any serious TV collector.

Oh wow!! I didn't realize you got a Clifton! Your lucky! To me, that is the most pre-war looking post-war set made. I can't wait to see pics and vids of it. I don't know much about them, but I'm assuming it's a similar chassis to the "doghouse".

It's quite different than the RA-103 chassis in the doghouse. No less than three 807s in it. Two driving the horizontal yoke and a third driving the HV coil. RA-102 Service info here: http://www.earlytelevision.org/pdf/d...-rider-tv1.pdf

You can cure this with a 0.5uf paper cap across the H-AFC filter to ground or maybe place a 15K resistor in series with it. Then retune the H frequency coil and your VHS tapes will bend no more!

It's hard to guess auction results in advance, and it's hard to play "what if" after the auction is over. "That guy," whoever he was, had ample financing and wasn't shy about paying for what he wanted. The two prewar GE sets sold for a combined total of $19,000. The third Clifton went for $250, but if you or I had joined the bidding, it might have taken much more to convince him to drop out.

Yes, extremely rare I see the Dumont Manchu went for only $250. If the 20BP4 is good, that's a steal!

The two Viewtones were an absolute steal also.

I got the Manchu, and I thought it was a steal! But alas, sometime during its life, a rectangular CRT was subed in. Now I will spend the rest of my life hunting for a 20BP4. Bummer!

But it is still a really cool set, and the price was right. :-)
