2 sets, 1 chassis?

Hi,

I have my eyes on a Hitachi knob turned TV that look likes it's the twin sister of another set I already have, and I was wondering if even though they are different (one is knob turned the other isn't)if it would be possible that they could share the same chassis (same board, flyback, etc...) only different tuner.

The guy is asking 35$ for it, if at least I could swap some componnents from one another it could be worth it, if not, then it might not be worth the trouble.

what do you guys think?

Thanks!

If the TV's were made within a year or so of each other; then, they likely share a similar main chassis. Whatever, I'd try to get him down on that price. No one else is going to give $35 for an '80's console TV; so, it's worth the effort to try and get it cheaper if you can.

Well, it might be if you were to live in Quebec city

Thing is, I already have 4 console, and the girlfriend is out of patience haha, so I do not "need" this tv, but I thought it looked great...so if I can get it for 20$, would that be a set that you think is worth saving?

Thanks!

Well, what a coincidence! I picked up a 1976 Quasar a few months ago almost exacly like that one! The guns are very strong in that one, I hope It can make a good picture when i'll have time to converge it!

Now that the Hitachi / Quasar thing is sorted out......
Yes most the time a chassis is used for many models & sizes
with little or no differences in the MAIN chassis. Much
like cars. My 03 Mercury Grand marque is almost identical
to my 04 crown vic. My neighbors 02 Lincoln Town Car
is almost the same also. Most the major parts are interchangable.
A TV maker would build a "new" chassis every 2 or 3 yrs.
An example is Zenith. They came out with a new chassis
@1974 19EC45 for 19" sets. Same chassis used in 17",
23" & 25". All almost identical. They came in different levels.
19" came with & without remote, in consolettes & pedestal sets.
Also a tilted back set with wood grain or white & woodgrain
cabinets. All have the same major guts with different tuners etc.
This is why we speak of chassis numbers so much here. For
us that spent a life fixing TV's to keep the wolfs from the door
its what we can relate to.
