Looking for vintage Hitachi Antenna

Hi there,

I have a Hitachi TWU-73 Black and White TV with an antenna that has seen better days. I'm sure it works fine, I just want to replace it for cosmetic reasons.

Does anyone know where I can find an exact replacement? Otherwise I guess I can go with a universal replacement. The part number in the manual says VHF Antenna - 2750011

Thanks

Matt

Odds are you wont find an original. Depending on the size
of the base an RCA or GE stud mount will work fine & look
almost the same. We used them as a universal on many sets.
Sony & a few others used it also. They were common before
most went with plug-in antennas.

I would be helpful to see how it's mounted on the inside.

Here's a shot of how the antenna is mounted on the inside.

Thanks,

Matt

My hitachi uses two of those and only has one.

What's wrong cosmetically? What I see in the pic you posted in the original post, is repairable.. I've polished metal even with toothpaste.

Aside from the metal that needs polishing it has a dent in the middle and the tip is broken off. It's very hard to extend it.

No worse than the situation with my 1983 RCA portable I suppose, it's missing its antenna mast altogether.

Go to your local Goodwill store, or one like it, and select from the dozens of analog TV's one w/a similar antenna. Probably cost you $10.00 for the set.

Well, I decided to go with the metal polish idea. First I took some very fine grit sand paper and lightly sanded off the speckles. It came out surprisingly shiny. No dull finish or anything. Then I used some metal polish and a couple drops of oil. So it looks brand new except for the top piece missing and a slight dent in the middle. I guess I'm happy with it for now. I watched a few episodes of Gilligan's Island after cleaning and re-capping the circuit board. Came out great.
