New Acquisition - Dumont RA-109A Sherbrooke Combo

Well....another new set waiting till I retire to get restored. A couple of years ago, I sold my Dumont 19" console to another collector here in Tucson, and have wanted another one ever since. An opportunity came up last week, so I decided to get it, even if I don't really have the room. It is an RA-109A Sherbrooke console in mahogany. The finish is all original and is in pretty good shape. The speaker cloth is perfect. The chassis has about a half inch of dust, but otherwise looks clean, unmolested and complete. It has all of the original documentation and manuals that came with the set when it was new. The 19AP4 is an RCA, probably original to the set, and has terrible emissions. I'm letting it cook for a couple of hours at a filament voltage of about 7V. I'll be cleaning this one up in the next week or so and bringing it into the house to await restoration, and then I'll get back to working on my Zenith color roundie combo.

Very nice find! Unfortunately those 19AP4's are very problematic after all these years , hard to find a strong one these days. I would suspect your set originally came with a DuMont CRT, after all they did make their own tubes.

Nice one. Get your cap order ready, it takes a bunch, course you already knew that. My RA-109 had the original CRT DuMont branded which also had bad emissions. I was lucky that a fellow collector, who is also a great guy, had a parts RA-112 with a strong one he was willing to part with.

Worse comes to worse a brightener will give you a picture , its not like it will be run hours and hours 7 days a week , you'll get some time out of it , let us know how the 7 volts turns out , I run a weak crt on a brightener with resistor to make it 7 volts and it looks nice.

It's kind of hard to make out, but it looks like the RCA CRT has the code date stamped on the locating key. Generally means that it is a replacement.

Honk if you love DuMonts! The nice thing about sets with doors is that the interior is usually in great shape. It's fun to have the original paperwork, too.

Very nice! It's almost like its 1950 all over again and you went down to your DuMont dealer and picked out a new set and got all the paperwork with it.

Did you bring it back home in your "hippy bus?"

-WOW- beautiful tv, and yes it is cool to get all the paper work with it ! WOW again.... you gotta love the people who keep the little booklets for 50 years.....

I think my Crosley has that tube in it..... Sounds familiar.....

Off the top of my head I think the set is 11-443mu... There might be more to the model number, that's what I remember.... And I think its got the same picture tube..... Unknown condition as she is also waiting for me to get around to workin her....

Yep. It's a 61 panel camper and gets driven several times a week. I've had it for almost 20 years. I've had several old VWs in the past and decided to keep this one.

I ran the picture tube for a couple of hours last night at 7V to wake it up. At 6.3V, the emissions moved from nearly dead to about mid range. Still in the "bad emissions" part of the meter, but near the top end. Might make a decent picture.
