Anyone Know Anything About This Set???

I am sure some of you online auction lurkers have seen this listing, but I think it is a facinating set.

Schlumberger was the company that owned Heathkit when I was a lad building shortwave and ham radio kits in the 60's, but I had no idea they ever made TVs. The build quality looks excellent (from the limited photos in the listing). I think his price is pie-in-the-sky cause how many actually know anything about this company's tv offerings in the 50's??
Anyone shed some knowledge here?

If the set does not sell, and he re-lists for a bit better price, I would be tempted, as I have a friend in CT who could pick it up for me til I could retrieve it from him.

Schlumberger (pronounced approximately Shloom-ber-shzay,) an international oil-field service company, owned Heathkit for a time in the sixties, and of course Heath later sold color TV kits which I think were CTC clones, and which have no connection to the set pictured. The chassis of the set pictured is built like a brick-you-know-what, doesn't resemble the build of any US set I've seen, and with that name, must be French. I cannot find any reference to a French company of that same name making TV's, but there must have been. Could it have been yet another venture back then of the oilfield folks?

Is there a possibility it's a Stromberg Carlson? The chassis looks identical to a TC-10.

It's a Stromberg-Carlson and has been on the bay for maybe six months or better at about the same price. It's a nice looking and unique set, but no where near worth almost three C's. Some people will re-list stuff over and over again at a high price and never come down.

That "roll bar" is a giveaway. My S-C 440M console radio had a similar one. What a nice touch for the serviceman.

I think it either had legs or a separate base? I do see some wood runners on the bottom though so maybe it was designed as a tabletop also.

I rebuilt the 10" "Manhattan" version of this chassis and it is a real PITA to work on, this is because it is so deep it's hard to get to some of the parts, i got shocked more working on it than any other model for the same reason!

The re-branding makes sense now....so If I was really wanting a set like that, I'd look for a SC! Yes, some sellers will just keep an outrageous price for months waiting for an interested, but un-informed buyer with more $ than sense......yeah, I do love that "roll bar"....satisfies a latent automotive fetish in the subconsious!

It's not re-branded. The seller just has the wrong name listed. If you look at the picture of the front you can make out Stromberg-Carlson. I'm not sure where they got the Schlumberger from.

These two forensic and motion blur removal corrections to the eBay shots may make it a little easier to read the Stromberg Carlson name. Far from perfect, but better.

Stromberg got a lot of milage out of that chassis. On my TS-125 the chassis sides unscrew, which really helps when recapping these deep chassis.
