That's a fair observation. People were paying for repairs, not restorations, and for all we know, things that look like quick fixes in hindsight might have held up just fine, until the TV was traded in or retired for some other reason.

Yah, but -- twenty bucks! I can't resist a bargain, and I've probably gotten a thousand bucks worth of entertainment from puttering around with it. Not to mention that I got to see the mysterious green glow.

You have probably been there. I just meant Vetco in Bellevue, http://www.vetco.net/ . Mostly a supplier of new electronics, but they have some old stuff sprinkled around (even some old test gear upstairs, last time I visited).
