70's Lloyds AM/FM Clock Radio

Thought I'd post this. Walter Beers just fixed it for me. ( it needed a cap)
Lloyds was a very CHEAPLY made product, but this is cool, and works great.
What makes this one unique is that it has motorized Auto Tune. Just tap on the bar and it "finds" the next station. Works great, and the clock light even works.

Motorized tuning, just like GM's Wonderbar and Ford's Town & Country radios in that regard, nice one for a cheapie.

Aside from the tuning dial it looks a lot like a Panny I've got stashed.

Yah, that does look a lot like a Panasonic......

The first place I worked at had repair contracts with LLoyds, and Yorks, we worked on thousands
of their clock radios.... They were digital though....
And some of the Yorks sets had a cassette, it had play, and FF, the supply reel
"floated" nothing there..... That thing was cheap.....
Cassettes were side-slide in, kinda like in a car radio.... but cheap....

They were stereo, and on the radio they did sound pretty good.... It was early 80's
I think each decade Cheapness is re-defined and achieves new lows....

Like Sneakers... Stuff from Korea, Honduras, and Malaysia were not so bad, now that
most are coming from China today..... Glue seems to be getting worse continent, by continent.....
I don't think glue ever came apart on my Keds when I was 12..... Now by time my $40. sneakers
are worn out, they also include $18. of Shoe-Goo on them....

I'm the one who fixed the radio, just needed a small electrolytic cap to get it working again. But I must say, it's made super cheap. The circuit board in it reminds me of those that were used in those little pocket radios from the 60s. Wires are real thin, and just stuck in a solder blob where they connect to the board. The motorized tuning is quite a unique feature though. It's surprising to me as well, that the clock runs as well.

It's strange, I went through about three pairs of those china-mart TredSafe shoes before local stores stopped carrying them and I never had the glue problems reported by those who reviewed them. I didn't find out about the glue problems until I went looking online for a replacement pair. Their bottom-tier "brands" that come without boxes are even worse, cracking where they flex the most after about three months. Right now I'm putting safeTstep shoes from Payless to the test, we'll see how well those hold up.

Yeah, Squirrel Boy and I are pro thread crappers. Crappy foreign stuff is one big reason I only buy vintage when possible. I reckon Lloyd's was a notch above SounDesign though.

Boy Jon A., you got that right. It's hard to believe stuff has gotten WORSE. In the late 70's early 80's there was a "Pamida" chain store a few towns over from us. They sold the crappiest of the crap. YORX, SounDesign, Kraco, and geezzzz Midland TV's were sure a dog. They never had a good pix on the sales floor, and I wonder how many are around now? I didn't think I'd see worse stuff than that, but still am surprised daily.

I think SounDesign was one of the first sell-outs to the chinese. I saw an older radio not that long ago that was marked "Made in Hong Kong". I had a couple of GoldStar-built 12" color sets that put out horrid pix in low-light scenes. Naturally I tossed both of 'em, didn't even save any parts.
