I got this set very recently and turned it on only once. So far I haven't been able to receive any stations on the radio, I don't know if the radio is not ok or if it was due to atmospheric conditions, also because of the hills both radio and TV reception are not very good where I live. How good is the radio on this set?

Hey, an Emerson 1232!

http://antiqueradio.org/emer1232.htm

I sold mine years ago, but as I recall the radio was not bad. Not especially powerful as receivers go, but no worse than a typical "All American Five" radio, either.

The first thing I would do is clean the tube pins and sockets, or at least wiggle the tubes on the little radio sub-chassis:

http://antiqueradio.org/FirstStepsInRestoration.htm

I would also clean the mode switch that changes from TV to radio reception. After you eliminate dirty switch and tube contacts, you could try some more serious diagnosis.

It's interesting that your set works without any restoration. Mine also worked except for a horizontal problem.

Regards,

Phil Nelson

I have This same set, except that it is missing the handle. this set is quite a performer, once restored. i have a good picture on mine. when a external antenna is connected, the radio's reception is dramatically improved.

Sorry, I do not. The manual can be ordered from Sams:

Or, possibly someone else has it.
