Zenith Color TV Sign

Gotta show off my latest CL find. It's in pretty decent shape, although the silk screening leaves a lot to be desired. It's a pretty thin screening application, and there's several white spots that show up when it's lite. Seller considered it NOS, said it was still in the box when he got it, but it's obviously been hung for some time(faded I think). It's about the size of a 48" florescent fixture. I'm guessing late 60's? Something different for me to look at for a while.

I am so jealous. Although someone here has a neon style one that needs a quick(and straightforward) bit of work from a glassblower to fix. Either one would be welcome on my wall though!

I need to find me an early Zenith color sign one of these days... I think that is early to lateish 60's...Near the end of the 60's Zenith switched from using that white border triad to a black border one (possibly due to their chromacolor black matrix CRTs).

Very cool, Kevin! It looks in nice shape to me. I wonder if the orange color was originally redder? You'd think they'd want to use RGB not OGB

I agree. We had almost the same sign & it dated abt 1967. Later
ones IIRC had the black & often mentioned Chromacolor probably
depending on size. Every triad I have seen on a Chromacolor
had the black background. It was a big deal back then.
A very nice sign but my squaw would not put up with it in
the living room

I've been looking for a similar sign forever, hoping one comes up locally on CL rather than ebay......

I am thinking 1967-1969 on this sign. 1962-1966 was hand blown glass neon. The sign you have was last of the roundies, early rectangular era.

Very nice. I am into collecting the advertising stuff more these days. It took me over a year to find one but I finally did.

Very nice. I have a similar sign that I scored on the Bay about a year ago. It's in my display room.

I love the old color symbol that Zenith used during that period. It reminds me of the alien probe from the old 50's movie "War of the Worlds".
