Crosley tabletop
So it happened again, I told myself that I wouldnt pick up any more tv's, not until the ones i have are restored and working. Well this Crosley came up for sale, for only 20 bucks. The guy had it hooked up to a dvd player, watching old movies on it, so yes, it works.
For 20 bucks, how could I resist? So here is my new toy, it has a 17" crt and the model number is eu 17, the chassis is 396. I think it may be a 1952 model, but im unsure. Well here is a few pics, im unsure when ill get around to restoring this, but im excited as ive never owned a Crosley before. ![]() ![]()

I got a floor model Crosley 1950 or so metal tube I think, round 19" and it also
works, but you can see the picture needs a little heightening.... So there are little things that could bring it back 100%..... .

Most B/W consoles and tabletop TV's from the '51-'55 period are overlooked, but most actually are very good players with sensible-sized screens. Very enjoyable sets to watch for bargain prices. Enjoy it!

It might be a hot chassis set, as that power transformer looks kinda small. It may only be for heaters.

What ya think of that speaker transformer arrangement....?
PM Speaker or EM..? Output transformer mounted to it.... I guess no matter where that chassis gets used, it will have to include the output transformer..... .

Right, the transformer is only for the tube heaters. It is a hot chassis with a voltage doubler for the B+. Found it in Riders volume 12.

What a bargain. There is something solid and patriotic about those early 50 sets, with those common tubes we all have in spades...
I got my first Crosley about 2 years ago, a 1955 21" console - also hot chassis with UHF and knobs on the side, after someone at work mentioned a set was put out for the trash. Got up there before lunch - phew

I always wondered if they was a manufacturers agreement between Hallicrafters and Crosley. The chassis looked very similar. Notice, the set shown is a UHF-VHF set. |

I cant wait to get started in on this old girl, just have to find a photofact for it.
The low tube count and the fact its already working should make this an easy restoration. I hope!

Also, the yoke doesn't look dry-rotted. Great find!

Tuner and flyback under the chassis, width control that moves the core of the flyback. It seems to change the gap of the ferrite cores. The same type power supply. Some of the models were transformerless, series string.

I couldnt help myself, had to pull the chassis and take a look. Blew it off with the air compressor, ill get to the real cleaning this week. No rust, nothing obviously wrong, really clean overall and those paper caps looks new. Almost a shame that ill be replacing them.
