i never used a resistor when changing seleniums to 1n4007 diodes. but what i did do was changed the value of the 37 ohm resistor thats on one side of the ac. the 37 ohm resistor is part of the ballast but you can leave it if you have a glass ballast and want to leave it original or clip the wires to the 37 ohm and put a separate one like i did , i used a 50 ohm 10 watt instead of the 37 which was only for the inrush to protect the seleniums but it holds alittle back on the ac when the line is at 121v where it used to be 117v back in the day. either way it will work with or without resistors for the diode change.

It does have a glass ballast. I have a 10" Motorola ts14 I believe and put 1n4007 in and didn't have to add a resistor after tripple checking voltages but figured id ask about the vt71 to be safe and the ts14 doesn't have a ballast and is not electrostatic. Thanks

the 10 inch you refer to would be the 8 inch as i dont think a 10 inch was ever made, just the 7 and 10.

Motorola made tons of the 10" sets (both tabletop and console) with magnetic deflection and a 10BP4.
Completely different line from the 7" and 8" electrostatic sets although they were both sold in the same time period.

Ok, I didn't think if there was a 10inch set that was electrostatic, only the 7 and 8 inch crts.
