I would have done the same thing...... And all those people selling stuff that say " I was
told not to plug it in so I didn't" They lie ! As long as it looks ok, not wet looking damp
smelling, mouse house looking, rusty chassis.... plug it in and see what happens....

In a 1940s set with wax caps, it's one thing to variac it slowly and run it for a few minutes....but once you get something, don't try to dial it in for 20 minutes!!!!
