Probably the time old story: Engineering builds a decent new product pitches it to the company then when every one thinks it is decent marketing chimes in and says they need to make it flashier so people will buy it...

First problem I notice with that prototype is cooling slots. The production model had the top arched up allowing for cooling slots, as well as long slots put in both side panels.
