I have a 1947 Stromberg Carlson set that needs this very repair.

If you need any help with it or parts other than the shaft, just ask. The first round took me all day between figuring out how it goes together, sourcing the Allen wrench, cleaning contacts, etc., but the second time took me less than an hour already having done it before.

It is holding up decently, with the set in somewhat regular use and periodic tuning between my agile modulators on ch7 and ch9 and the NOAA weather radio station receivable between ch7 and the FM band.
