While American firms favored American parts we never had hangups using foreign parts. A number of American makers bought german power resistors during the Korean war due to the war causing parts shortages*.
During the 60's some makers sourced European and or Japanese signal tubes. American CRT plants ran into the 90's, and domestic small parts making operations still exist. *At that time we were also using American made resistors that had the right value for the circuit but the wrong color code labeled (ie off tolerance/factory seconds).
