DIY ion trap?
Checked eBay, posted in the classifieds, and no one seems have a double ion trap with the black and blue bands, the kind used on the 10bp4. I know it's probably not as simple as it seems, but it's technically just two magnets. Obviously it seems like I could just take two permanent magnets and make some kind of holder for them, but that's just too easy, right?

![]() you have to take into account gauss , polarity and spacing... not all traps are the same, I found this out the hard way. back before I found the original hardware for my FADA ( and the Ion Trap ), I got one on eBay. After the original was found, I noticed that the eBay one was MUCH stronger than the original, and the spacing was slightly different of the tabs, at first I had thought the original old one lost it's power, till I tried it, and it worked perfectly, and the eBay one was WAY WAY to strong for my 12lp4, and most likely no good for a 10bp4, w/o knowing what it was made for, its useless. and trying to make one w/o knowing magnet power will not be easy.

I guess the real trouble would be for someone to source modern magnets of the correct construction, as making a setup to attach and adjust them wouldn't be that hard for me, but I know absolutely nothing about magnets.

This is the only thing that shows ion trap power for my CRT that I could find.
https://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/168/1/12LP4.pdf yours is most likely the same. how this translates to the trap structure, who knows, is this magnet power measured at the top right at the magnet? or in the very center of the trap, ( most likely, or at the very end of it, near the spring/screws, all will have different power readings :/ does it even matter that much?

I don't see why not. It'd be hard to get the adjustment right, though. You could probably use ordinary ceramic magnets, but the spacing and distance between the magnets and the tube neck would probably be a bear to get right. If there's no other option, though, I don't see why not.
So apparently magnetic flux and flux density are different, so you'll have to figure out some math to get the right magnets. |

I have a few double permanent magnet traps but I'm probably going to be busy till mid July so I decided to hold off on replying. If you can wait that long and nothing else pops up in the meantime I can help you then.

I would offer up the one I got off eBay, but I already know that it is way WAY too strong for your CRT, (and mine too )
![]() I did try it, and it would not work correctly on my 12lp4
