VHF/UHF to Coaxial to RGB
Hi guys! I have old tvs that I hook up to nintendos and wiis and vhs for fun. I recently came into an older gen tv. It ONLY has the UHF and VHF adapters on the back.
Normally what I do is run coaxial to a coaxial to RGB adapter and run than to media source, or run through an hdmi converter. So I picked up a VHF to Coaxial part on amazon for a few bucks thinking that would just be one more piece to the puzzle. But hooking up the cables on the VHF to Coax (and then coaxial to everything else) does not seem to work. I am assuming this VHF to Coax piece is not meant for input? Is there something that could run from my Coax cord to the VHF on the tv that would work as an input. Here's the last piece of my puzzle that makes my input not work. Am I missing something? To make this more clear
Worries that was a bit confusing.
I have a n64 (RGB) it runs to an RGB to Coax adapter. The Coax output on that adapter plugs into COAX to VHF and then the two VHF into the VHF on the tv. |

I'm assuming you mean RCA, not RGB, which would be something completely different (more like VGA). As I recall, my N64 had an RCA output (the yellow, white, and red plugs?). Anyway, I'm hoping you tested the coax output on another TV to make sure that works.
That coax-to-VHF adapter you got should work fine. Check what channel output your first coax adapter is set to (perhaps try changing it), and ensure your TV is on that channel. If your TV has the old-fangled channel knobs, you might have to play around with them, and the fine-tuning rings/knobs, too. Also, some old TVs that have their own antenna will have a wire with a spade connector going to the screw terminals for VHF input, make sure that wire is not connected. |

Hi!
Yes the plain coaxial works fine. Sense one tv is already set up and working (correct channel) I decided to test that. Coaxial works fine. I unplug the coaxial, screw in the coaxial to Vhf and plug the vhf in and nothing. Gone through lots of other channels to check but can't get anything anywhere. The vhf is unscrewed from anything else, just has the connectors. Thanks for the response. |

My coaxial input says 75 the vhf one is 300. Am I just not finding the right channel for the vhf input? I've scrolled through a tonnnn (it's this old ones where it's super hard to scroll through)

One of the confusing things is your use of the word Coax. RF cables are coax with F type connectors, audio and composite video cables are coax cables with RCA connectors (though BNC and PL-259 connectors are used in some applications).
It is more helpful to refer to the signal (composite video, RF, etc) in the cable then if necessary explain the type of cable. If you can post a picture of the connectors on your TV and your system it should clarify. In the early 70's back 300 ohm twin lead was the standard RF connection for antennas, but by the late 80s 75 ohm F-type coax was the standard antenna RF connector. TVs made in the transition years often had both types of RF connection. Some sets made it so that both connections would work at the same time, but other sets had some method (there were many so a picture would be needed to figure it out) of switching which one was connected to the tuner. If your set only has 300 ohm twin lead RF input you want to connect your coax RF source to a Balun to adapt it to 300 ohm. Some baluns are bidirectional (you can use them to convert a 300 ohm antenna to a 75 ohm TV input or a 75 ohm antenna to a 300 ohm TV input), but some will only work one direction. If you have a single directional Balun converting impedance backwards it can outright fail to work.

Looks like you are right, my bad. The retail box says that yes the L/R+composite cable was included and the RF dongle was an option.
