Polish TV set Wisla

TV set "Wisla" was manufactured in Poland by Warszawskie Zaklady Telewizyjne from july 1956. It was the first mass-produced TV set in Poland. Earlier, experimental receivers were built in single copies, which I may write about one day. There were two versions of the Wisla TV. The first was basically a copy of the Soviet TV "Avangard".

In Wisła A (USSR licence) were tubes:

6N1P -mixer and heterodyne
6Ż3P -the first amplifier of intermediate frequency for vision
6Ż3P -the second amplifier of intermediate frequency for vision
6Ż3P - the first amplifier of vision
6P9 - the second amplifier of vision
6Ż3P - the first amplifier of intermediate frequency for audio
6Ż3P - the second amplifier of intermediate frequency for audio
6Ż3P -limiter of amplitude
6Ż3P - preamplifier of audio
6P9 - final amplifier of audio
6N1P -separator and generator for vertical deflection
6P1P - amplifier of vertical deflection
6N1P - generator for horizontal deflection and amplifier for synchro pulses
G807 -amplifier for horizontal deflection
6C4P - dempfer
1C1S - high voltage rectifier
5C3S -rectifier
31ŁK2B- cathode ray tube

Wisła B was modified by polish constructors. Thats why used european tubes:

ECC85 -mixer and generator heterodyna
EF80 -the first amplifier of intermediate frequency for vision
EF80 -the second amplifier of intermediate frequency for vision
EF80 - the first amplifier of vision
6P9 - the second amplifier of vision
EF80 - the first amplifier of intermediate frequency for audio
EF80 - the second amplifier of intermediate frequency for audio
EF80 -limiter of amplitude
EF80 - preamplifier of audio
6P9 - final amplifier of audio
ECC85 -separator and generator for vertical deflection
EL84 - amplifier of vertical deflection
ECC85 - generator for horizontal deflection and amplifier for synchro pulses

Interesting that the speakers are wrapped in little cloth drawstring bags. Must be to help with vibrations.

These little bags was often used in polish radio and tv sets until late 1950s or even later.

I have a Grundig stereo console with the woofers wrapped in bags like that. I think they are a form of damping.

When I designed and measured my speakers in 1975 using Speakerlab woofer drivers, I found they were slightly underdamped for the design, and tacking the right amount of fiberglass over the backs brought them precisely to the needed damping.

It would be interesting to know how they determined the damping needed for that TV, as Small and Thiele didn't write their papers rationalizing speaker/enclosure design for the bass end until 1971.

Philips/Norelco had "bags" on their speakers in the 50s as well.

EF80/6BX6 was a common tube in the IF of the early Panasonic color sets.
I never replaced one. Maybe someone that had more experience with older import sets ran into them.

What a sweet looking TV to be a standard, thanks for such a thorough discussion in a short post.

I only found bags on speakers in a Grundig large console KS-590we, it may have preserved them.

ECC85 was typical mixer-osc in an FM set. US tuners mostly used at least three triodes for VHF High (174-213mc) & Low (54-88 mc)

Rebuilding of horisontal transformer in another tv set "Wisła". Everything is ok .
My colleague wound up basket coils. The braid was silk, so I decided to preserve it with polystyrene gruel. Finally, I dried the coil under vacuum until the gauge showed a vacuum of better than 10 ^ -4 Torr.

Hi,
I have one, too (version "B").
I did bought it for only 80 Deutsch Marks in 1992 in Lodz.
I have to add, that it is very heavy, to switch the set on you
have to raise the lid, to shut off the lid has to be closen.
The CRT is a russian 31 LK and something (31 cm diameter).
This TV is a "one channel" set, no turret tuner or something.
My set has still that paper which declares the functions of the
knobs! It is located under the knobs and many where destroyed
during the use of the sets.

There were three versions of the coils in the heterodyne and the mixer. Depending on the part of the country in which this TV was used. I also have this paper in two TV sets. CRT is 31LK2B.
