Powerstat Model 116 Variac Issues

Hello Everyone! Yesterday I was given an old Powerstat Model 116 Variac that when I got it the power cord was cut on it and when I wired a new cord on and tested it out, it gets power from the wall, but then the outlet on it doesn't get any power.

Anyone on here have any ideas as to what's going on with this thing?

Unplug it and check continuity with an ohmmeter.
Blown fuse/circuit breaker? If so, caution, it may have been scrapped because it has a short.

Never mind, I got it going!

The brush wasn't making proper contact.

Thanks, I actually had guessed that was more than likely what was wrong but I wasn't sure how to go about trying to properly fix the issue, but I figured it out.
