Long ago when these were just old TVs and radios, I used to jump out bad sections of candohm resistors with a terminal and fixed resistor, but these things are so old now that there's a good chance the rest of the sections may start acting up later and perhaps sooner, and I've had a few that got leaky to ground as well.

I guess if I ran into a candohm that was good, I'd be inclined to leave it in. But once one section fails, out it comes.
