I'd go to AutoZone, o'riley auto or any other auto parts store and pick up some flavor of permatex sensor safe RTV silicone before I'd go to a hardware store. Most hardware store silicone releases acid as it dries and can damage electronics.
If it was an emergency scenario I might use GE silicone II from a hardware store on a flyback (I use it to reattach CRT safety glass after a cataract removal), but I'd still rather use sensor safe automotive silicone if possible.
