Resolution lines on Zenith roundie

Are you sure this isn't a termination issue? Do the retrace lines appear on a blank raster (no video)?
I had this symptom when trying to hack an RCA connector onto one of those 5" b/w Sony Watchman sets, so I could have video in. Retrace would appear only when fed through an external source instead of the tuner. I think you needed to slip a resistor in between the RCA and the IC pin so it would be terminated properly, although I never tried. Could've been something on the neckboard too.

old_tv_nut and Username1 you both are correct, thank you. There was a G1 short on the blue gun. Not sure if this was related but when I lifted the tube from screen facing up which is how I worked on removing the cataract to screen face down to install the tube I heard what sounded like a spec of something in the tube rattle.

Maybe unrelated, note I had fully tested the tube earlier and it passed so something during handling caused the short.

If there is something floating around inside you could always place the tube face up again, or otherwise, and try tapping around the neck while connected to the tester.
