Someone kindly let the vacuum out of the CRT in my 12" Philco before I got it.

The back was barely hanging on the set. It fell and the metal cup hit the socket base. I did get the set as-is for 20 less than the tag said. I found a tube at the 2004 ETF convention and restored it that summer.

Interesting seeing however....

I've carefully lowered a few into a garbage can and chucked a softball-sized rock in. Works.

This guy I was with one time saw an old classic console set laying on its back and he took a pipe and threw it towards the screen......... It exploded when it hit like it was being uncompressed.......... (Glass went all over)

This was many years ago.........

I wouldnt ever do something like that but sadly not everyone is like us and values good/better older stuff..........

On tubes that aren't worth rebuilding even if rebuilding were available (it isn't available anymore) I whack the evacuation nipple to slowly release the vacuum then once fully down to air smash into small chunks, box, tape shut and then stick in the garage. (No way in hell am I paying a $30 e-waste fee to dispose of a dead tube.)

When it doesnt work anymore than letting the air out is best when disposing of it..
