at the very least, someone needs to save that crt. but on second thought, we can't let that chassis go in the trash, either!

What about emailing the seller of the set...if the prop house just wants to gut the set, could the seller perhaps remove the chasssis and crt and just ship the cabinet and knobs...would save on the shipping charges for the seller to just sent the buyer the empty cabinet, if they would agree to it.

I emailed the buyer after the auction and asked what the plans were for the set. I am waiting a reply.

It is a sin to destroy such a nice set. If the seller would install a modern chassis with a modern crt - he should keep the original parts and he should do it in such a way that somebody else could easily restore the set into the original condition. This can't be so difficult?!
It is true, whatever is destroyed nobody can't bring back forever. This is what we have learned from the desaster of WW2.
A human being before the court has a lawyer per law. An antique tv set has no lawyer if somebody of us makes himself a lawyer for a set.

I wasn't ever planning on bidding on the RCA. But beyond that beautiful set was the included paper work. I have an original owner's manual for my CTC-5 Deluxe and would have loved to have that original "hang tag". I was going to write you and request a color copy of the tag. I guess I should have done that at the time. Did you perhaps make a copy of the tag?

I've met the seller of the set and saw the set last week-end. The guy that has it now is pretty cool, but tv's aren't really "his thing". He does collect and has many awesome washers and appliances, so if it was certain that this set would be scrapped I wouldn't imagine he'd be too happy about it, as he has much appreciation for vintage items.

Funny, I was also going to ask for a copy of that paperwork! I knew that if one of "us" got it, it wouldn't be much of a problem.
