She looks to be about a 1950 or so, Grump. If nothing else it makes an excellent donor parts set. Picture tube would definitely be worth saving too.

parting out TV.
Grump,
Put the CRT on ebay starting at $15.00. If you could get someone with a CRT tester to verify it good it might fetch $50-$75. It looks like a 10BP4, or a 12LP4. If you have time I'd pay you a dollar each plus postage for the vertical output transformer and the audio output transformer (tiny thing). I'd take the power transformer too but the postage would kill me. There ought to be a 6SN7 tube or two in that chassis, plus there is a 5U4 rectifier, maybe a 6W6. There are some like Mike who would be interested in these tubes as they have audio applications. I notice there is a turntable in the bottom. From some on AK I gather one can't have too many turntables.! ![]() Bang the rest up and put it in the fireplace. That's real hardwood man! Recycle those stored BTU's. I heat my home in the winter with burning hardwood, but maybe this winter I'll be heating with a big bank of 6080's in an amplifier. Rob |

Thanks for all the info its much appreciated. Now if I only knew what the CRT I was id pull it I would assume its the ROund Picture tube thing ( Thor's terms ) Theres some knobs missing but should I sell them and as a set? This thing is so freaking grungy from sitting for years in someones garage that it amazes me that the tubes look like thye were put in yesterday. My Guess is they are not original. The Turntable is a definate write off and so is the Glass that covers the Picture tube ( not on the picture tube ) I did notice that on the Long ass thing (another Thor term ) that protrudes from behind the picture tube that the plastic ? cap or cover on the end is cracked. Would this be a big negative to seling that ? And lastly on some of the tubes there are a wire attached to the top. Can I just clip there or will I do harm ? Thanks againGrumpy |

Grump,
I don't think the knobs would sell. It is OK to cut the wire off the top of the probably just two tubes in there. The 6BG6 horizontal output tube, although the cap is a connector and should gently pull off leaving a wide connection pin on the top of the tube. Same with the 1B3 in the HV cage. I forgot, the 6BG6 is usefula as an audio output tube too! Look on the tube layout chart glued inside the set if it has one to try to ID the picture tube thingy. Yes that's the big tube you look at with the long neck sticking through the deflection coils and stuff out the back. If that part of the CRT is badly damaged that will reduce the saleability. If it is just loose that should be OK if you don't try to put any twisting or pulling pressure in it. Careful handling the picture tube if you do remove it. Wear safety glasses, a heavy shirt or jacket and gloves. They are fragile and if bumped or subjected to more than moderate pressure can crack and impode throwing glass everywhere at high speed. The hardest part about removal will be getting it to slide out of the deflection coils and stuff. Sometimes they get hung up there. You may have to put a layer of black tape around thew crt socket so that it wont catch as it tries to slip through the yoke. Remove the little magnet thingy from the neck of the tube carefully before you try to remove the tube, as well as the gun connection, the plug on the very back end of the tube. You also need to remove the high voltage wire connector that is connected to a recessed well on the side of the CRT funnel. It should either pull straight off, or by bending back the rubber cover you will see that it is held in the hole by a spring cliop that can be pushed by hand to let go. Remember, gentle pressure! I'm not trying to scare you, just caution you about safe handling of the CRT. I've handled these all my life and one has never imploded on me yet. Rob |

Thanks again. As you can tell I know squat about TV's I wasent seeing dollar signs when I seen it but I fuguresd hey what the hell. Honestly that sounds like way to much trouble to go through to yank the pic tube. I might keep it around but most likely its going to be a tube donor. Once i fugure out how to use my dang tube testor I will let you guys know if any are Ok. Thanks again Dave |

Hi Grump,
Looks like the cabinet is beyond repair on that set. The chassis and CRT should come out in one piece. Please don't toss the Picture Tube! it's either a 10 or 12 inch and in demand in any case. Eric |

valuable speaker!!!
Grump,
Don't toss that speaker. It is an alnico with zero mass cone. Very high performance. You wouldn't be able to hear any distortion whatsoever from this speaker. Ought to go really high on the Bay. ![]() Rob |

Well hazzaa! I am glad I stumbled onto this thread. I have been looking at the same set in an antique mall here in St. Louis. Works, cabinet a little skinned up. $75. And darn it the adjustment knob cover is gone on this one too. It does need a couple of knobs so if I get it I will give you a hollar! I did not have the courage to pull it out from the wall to check brand. Why do they pile all that breakable crap on top anyway?

That looks like a Sears set... I had one near identical to it once. I agree (unfortunately), that this is a "for parts" TV.
