off topic BUT READ

while i was on vacation last week some one stole my password on ebay and listed items. ebay caught it i had to go through a lot to get a new password. they also say charges have been put on my credit card. going to check into it. ebay says they will refund the money. it was strange trying to log on ebay saying my password was invalid. has anyone had this happen to them.

How did someone get your password???

I've never heard it's possible to get into Ebay's system, and steal passwords.

One place it comes from is answering the phoney EBay type emails where it asks for your Ebay info.

... password, credit card info, etc.

I used to forward them to Ebay, but now I don't even open the email.

My Ebay experience

I got mail from ebay asking me to confirm a password change request. It did seem authentic, with logos and such, and it also said to ignore the message if I did not wish to change my password.... So I did.

Things must still be ok, 'cause I just listed something yesterday.

You might find this a humourous read, especially if you read ebay ads for old car parts (although they do pretty much the same thing with TVs!). I decided to take the exaggerations to a whole new level, and people have been e-mailing me to say it made them laugh.

I think without a doubt it was a fraud!

No one should ever have to E-mail their Credit Card info or password to any Internet company, they have secure Web forms for that.

I have gotten the scam ebay ones and also received one recently allegedly from best buy wanting me to verify my c.c. info. I forwarded the email and they did verify it was a fraud and they have had that trouble too. Actually paypal too, I just ignored that
one as their customer service is "non-existant".

E-Scam

I received the same "Best Buy" e-mail message requesting c.c. info. I called Best Buy's 800 number and the recorded message that answered was to beware of the c.c. scam being sent all over the country. They're out there and out to you.

In general terms, it's safe to say that you should NEVER answer emails directly, that asks for credit card number info, password info etc.

Instead of answering the email, ... go to the website, and check to see if any up date is necessary.

Another thing to watch for is e-mail greeting cards. It seems that one of the more popular ones used a program that had a Trojan Horse in it. It apparently sends all your keystrokes off to the guy who wrote the program - cute. That's why my PC has a firewall.
