RCA VICTOR 9-PC-41 Value?

I just came across a very cool looking RCA Victor 9-PC-41.
Guy wants to sell it, but doesn't know $$$.
Want's me to make an offer.
I have no idea of the value?
I generaly by old audio equipment to re-sell.
Any idea what the going price would be for such a cool looking set?

Firstly, hope you are aware that these are over 250 lbs. and do not have casters. It takes two gorillas to move one. Secondly, although they are very + cool to a very select group of sophisticated collectors like myself who appreciate their true value, most collectors don't want them and they are subsequently hard to give away and even harder to sell. I have one for sale now myself. If you can find a buyer for $150.00 you are probably doing well. I'd suggest after you pay the gorillas you will end up owing someone something, so best not touch this 'deal' unless you truly want it for yourself. If so it is a pretty neat vintage channel one projection TV! They can get very expensive restoring to functionality however. 41 tubes, 4 chassis, lots of capacitors and then the projection optics sometimes need re-aluminizing or the lenticular/fresnel screen could need replacing as well. The 5TP4 projection CRT is very hard to find.

Welcome to the Vintage TV Forums!

The 9PC41 (1949) and 8PCS41 (1948) are probably the most common projection TV's around. I have three of them around here right now, and turned down about that many in the past few months.

I was at an auction about a month back and there were three of the 8PCS41's They sold for $50ea, but the cabinets were only in fair shape. I think the '49 set is a nicer looking unit and it had a wired remote for contrast and brightness. If the cabinet is in good shape $100-$200 is a fair price (unrestored).

If you plan on restoring it, get ready to replace a lot of caps.

The key piece to making this set have a sharp picture is a good spherical mirror in the projection unit.

There was a good thread here a few months back on these sets.

Chuck,

You must'a been at an estate sale of a dead TV collector. I don't know what other kind of auction would have one of these let alone three. What was it, I'm curious?

Thank you both for the very usefull information (and the warm welcome).
I don't think he would take an offer of less than $150, and it does need some work. I think I will pass on this one. Some of the components (tubes?) might bring some $$$, but I wouldn't want to tear apart such a classic, or have to lug the beast around.

Rob,

It was an auction of stuff from an old TV repairman. There was about 50-60 TV's mostly late 40's and early 50's but they were all missing parts. All were missing knobs, most missing CRT's, backs and some tubes.

The projectors were the most expensive sets, a few sets brought $2 each, the majority the auctioneer couldn't get .50 each. At the end of the auction there were about 45 sets left, I could have had them all for $20 if I had a place to stack them. I did buy one set an RCA 6T54 with the matching base unit for $2. That's where I picked up the roundie Zenith I posted pictures of. (also cost $2)
