Another ebay problem....

I bought a vintage set on ebay on 6/1/06..paid the same day by paypal. Seller left me positive feedback on the 2nd. Set has yet to arrive, emailed seller about it on Monday...still no response

Im not having any luck with large items on ebay..I bought a console record player two months ago...it was "lost in shipping" but insurence wasnt offered...

yikes! was it comming freight? Sometimes it takes awhile if its comming freight, sometimes 4-6 weeks. Another possibility (in the case it was 'lost) may be someone unloaded at a storage facility waiting for another truck, then the other driver forgot to load it, or just didn't want to, leaving it at the facility.

never really know with these, which is why I'm always so weary about buying large stuff on ebay.

He didnt specify what method of shipping he's using..its possible its comming by freight, its a 19 screen and its in a wood cabinet..however the shipping costs were cheap, only $60.00!! So I was thinking he sent it UPS or something as frieght would be considerably more. Ive herd stories of ebay sellers finding out that their item costs alot more to ship then what they charged and they back out...so who knows...

I wouldn't panic, take a look at the guy's feedback and that should tell you if he has a history of keeping his word, or if he makes problems. I have taken sometimes a couple weeks to ship out a TV, usually because I'm busy and to ship something that big & fragile requires a lot of time and running around finding proper packing supplies. If he undercharged on the shipping, he might be trying to find alternatives before having to confront you with the problem. I have had to offer additional money to sellers who honestly made gross mistakes in guesstimates on shipping.

Paying with paypal gives you an out. Twice now items never showed and insurence not offered. I filed claim with paypal and got refund, why, it looks like PayPal demands proof of seller that you got item and when he can not you get refund. One of those item did make it months later so I paid seller money back.
Some kind of time limit to file claim?

I had a problem with a shipment arriving damaged a while back. Due to, let's say inadequate packaging, the insurance wouldn't pay, but the seller was charged back by PayPal and I received a refund. I was out the cost of return shipping, but I didn't get hurt as bad as I might have. The seller was livid and called me every name in the book, even tried to collect on the insurance on the return trip. The PayPal "balance of power" is tilted heavily towards buyers, so you should have an out if there is a problem.

It's too late to help in this case, but I never bid or make an offer on something like this unless I have first gotten the seller to agree on a shipper and packing method that satisfies me.

If they won't agree, then no bid. There are plenty of other fish in the sea.
