An interesting set. Sams #66-13 shows it to have 33 tubes, whit a pulsbutton capacitive tuned TV tuner, an unusual feature. Separate auioo amp, consisting of all 7 volt subes, though only a single tube output. There rest of the TV circuitry is normal, though it has 4 video IFs and 2 sound IFs, so it should not be a poor performer. 10BPR CRT. I hope someone gives it a good onme. Oonventional AM radio. One wonders why they did not include a photograph?

If it were closer, and I had more room, I would give it a home.

Sears was probably trying to keep costs down by not including a phonograph. I think the layout could have been improved upon, but if a phonogrpah was included, where would it go? It looks like the the AM radio was a simple adaptation of the Silvertone Wire Recorder Model 8088 or 7103. Both use the same loctal tube type chassis. I have several Silvertone 8088 and 7103 in my collectioin. I think Sears tried to cut corners with the cabinetry. The wood joints on the cabinets did not use dowel and pin or dove tail construction. Quality control was very poor and the cabinets tend to dry out the fall apart. I wonder how solid the TV cabinet would be?

This TV doesn't strike me a the most eye appealing but I wonder if Sears had a higher end unit? Sears did have a high end wire recorder with a time clock (I have the recorder and time clock as a separate piece in my collection) I think they missed an oppportunity to be the first to do time shift recordings - audio only - of TV programs. Sears could have built a masterpiece with a TV set...take a look at the attached pics...the wire recorder/phonograph combo designs were great!

Yes, someone needs to grab this one. I guess these were only sold through the stores and not the catalogs? I have a '48 catalog but no tv sets listed. I was trying to remember who the '101' code is-Colonial, right? When did Sylvania buy Colonial? I parted out an early rectangular tube Silvertone with a Sylvania built, Colonial branded crt. If I had the room I would consider this beast myself.

WHO is Radio graveyard??

He seems to bid on a lot of sets--including this one. Is he a collector--or a "converter" who will destroy it??

Radiograveyard is a close friend of mine and a very active member of our Delaware Valley Historic Radio Club. The nick is a play on his name.

He is a prolific collector as well as a buyer and seller as a dealer, mostly older radio and military gear. And a gentleman. I was looking at the Andrea last week that he started the bidding on. I emailed him to let him know I was interested and he stepped aside for me. Too pricey for both of us in the end.

He will almost always buy the junk at our club or Kutztown auctions just to make sure it does not go to the trash.

And if he thought something was going to end up as a fishtank, he would hit someone upside the head with some large Collins piece.

And if you need some info on a radio, drop him a note. He probably has the answer. Televisions too. Tell him I sent you.
