I got this nice Transvision the other day. Drove a hundred miles to pick it up in the pouring rain, and carted it down from a hot, dusty attic in my dress clothes, but it seemed like a pretty good day to me!

Another member of our local club got a call about some estate items that were looking for a new home. He spoke for all the magazines and radios, but wasn't interested in the TV and let me know about it. The family was overjoyed that some fool would actually buy it and take it out of the attic for them, and were genuinely happy that their dad's beloved TV "that he built with his own hands" would be appreciated by a new custodian.

The fellow was an electronics enthusiast and had collected tons of stuff and they're just trying to be rid of it all. I picked this up two days ago and since then, several members of the family have sent me emails about how happy they are that someone would actually appreciate their dad's old junk(!). And wow, do I!

Anyone know what model this is? I've never seen a picture of exactly this style, although it's similar to the model 10-A. There is no model number on the case or chassis. I was told that the chassis for all the 10" models were the same.

Anyway, the whole sequence of events sure made for a pretty good day.

Wow, Dave, that's PURTY !! An' just think-you can put a 2nd speaker innit, & have STEREO !! Wow, was this TeeVee ahead of its time, or what ?!? Seriously, that IS a very nice set...You should be justifiably proud...

Here's the 7" version of the cabinet. The chassis isn't the same, the 7" sets were more like prewar sets, AM sound and 60 cycle HV supplies.

Hi Dave!

Great find! I have the same set but with a 12" CRT and mine is a 12B model. You just dont see these sets turn up very often. Gotta love the funky cabinet style!

I wonder how many different models Transvision offered? The one on Tom's site, and the one here are similar; it looks like the same basic cabinet, but with the speaker holes cut out differently. The knobs are also in different positions, so I wonder if the chasses were in fact the same? I haven't taken mine apart, but I wonder if Transvision might have designed the kit so the front panel controls could be mounted in different positions on different models -- and if so why they would do that.

Nice set you have! Is that a table set on a speaker table? I take it its a 10" set, so many variations of these sets!

The National TV-7 actually had dual speakers, one on each side of the CRT.

The cabinet is all one piece & definitely homemade. While there is space for a big speaker down below nothing is mounted there. This one is 12".
