I wonder what will happen to this set now as it did not sell? I would think several museums should give that price for it. I guess I am wrong?

Poor cabinet restoration, electronic restoration without stuffing the new caps in the old cases, and missing a couple of pieces, especially the CRT mask. The set isn't worth $10k.

I was going to ask if anyone else noticed the cabinet. Looks like it was stripped and refinished without using grain filler (check out those pores).

I was most underwhelmed by the screen cap. If that's the best shot they can get of the set operating (and I suspect it looks no better than that in person) they're probably better off not showing it.

You would think for that kind of money it would have been restored up to the same standards as Steve and the guys at the Early Television Museum would do. The chassis looks horrible above and also underneath. An example is that theres still old friction tape holding stuff together and also exposed wire in places that should have at least been shrink wrapped. The chassis is pitted and stained. If you click on the link where he has more information on it you can see for yourself. Yes, its neater than it was before but on something this rare i would have went all out to give it its original look and hide all the modern replacements and have it look a little more like a restoration than a repair. It looks like he just wiped down the chassis, slapped in some caps and resistors to get it playing and called it a day. The finish definately could have been better as you can see remnants of wax in the grain of the veneer where it wasnt finished properly. I hope the picture on it looks better in person. After all it is a pre-war set so i really wouldnt know but Steve would. It can all be reversed but at that price i could see no logic in it...rare or not. I'm not knocking the guy as it seems he put a lot of time into it and brought it back to a working and at least presentable set from what it was but he could have gone a bit further with not much more effort. Its like he washed the car but didnt detail it.

Its too bad that set was in such poor shape to begin with. Since the set was not refinished professionally to duplicate the original finish it would bring the value down abit and it would have been better if the caps were re-stuffed with the new ones. The set is very much worth the time to have had the refinish and the electronics done with more attention, if I were him I would just keep the set now, I dont think he will get the price he wants for it so might as well enjoy it.
