What speeds does the turntable have on it? If it has 45 & 33, prolly postwar. Yeah, I'd guess early post war, 1946-48. Nice score, in any case !!-Sandy G.

this one only has one speed on the record player. i'm guessing a 78 rpm. i'm pretty new to this vintage radio stuff and look forward to learning more about it.

Looks like it has BOTH FM bands on it-that would indicate very early postwar. Very nice looking old set, in any case. -Sandy G.

Yes, broadcasters had to leave the 40 MHz band by 1948. so this must be a '46 to '48 model. I didn't find the FM chassis CR-189 in Sams index, but there may be a similar one. Is there a chassis number stamped on the main chassis? Magnavox always used chassis number instead of model number for service info.

I have that exact set, except in the blonde cabinet. Got it for free from my elderly neighbor after mowing her lawn for 10 years. Mine gives great sound, has a huge speaker.
Intersting in that the FM is a completly seperate unit, with its own power supply, just no amplifier. I have seen these with no FM, so it was probably an option. I think I have a copy of the sams somewhere, but it is in Riders, the FM is in Volume 15, the main receiver in 16. Enjoy! |

Those Magnavox consoles really have good performance...I have one and there is also one at the repair shop I work for. Neither have the FM module though...you were lucky to get that on yours! I mostly listen to records on mine as there isn't much AM that's good around here except for a nostalgia music show Sundays on one of the talk stations.

yeah, same here with the am stations here. there is only one am that plays big band. at least there is one.
unfortunately, it looks like the cartridge on the record player is bad. wonder where i'm gonna find that. i was listing to an fm station yesterday and it played pretty well. the volume pot needs cleaning and i don't recall the tuning eye working in the fm chassis. the eye in the am chassis works. maybe i'll do a quick swap to see if the fm eye is still good or not. i do at least know of a local shop that has that 6u5 tube NIB for 35 bucks. |

I helped a very nice neighbor move a Coke machine tonight and he gave me one of these for my time! It appears to have AM/SHortwave/TT. Anyone know anything about it?
PS I will not be gutting it! |
