As for picking up a picture tube by its neck, its perfectly fine as long as you are lifting straight up without any harsh horizontal movements. I used to replace quite a few tubes in my day and that is exactly how I did them all. Unbolt the corner screws and then lift the tube straight out by pulling on the neck. Worked everytime and never broke any of them. I generally took the tubes to a picture tube remanufacturer and they always carried them around the same way too. It was a standard procedure back in the day.
As for dropping a tube on a blanket, I would not want to take a chance at vibrating the guns or the face mask. |

i ruined my favorite computer monitor by letting it sit in the trunk. made a harsh turn, it fell on its face and wouldn't work right from then on..... what a waste
