RCA 702X AM/FM bakelite
I recently acquired this set and now have it working (12AU6 and 35W4. audio coupling cap, etc). I picked this up at an antique store as was surprised to see AM/FM in a table top model of this vintage and construction. FM reception is quite acceptable with only the line cord antennae, given the polystrene rod and coil arrangement, while AM is as strong as expected but difficult to align. Before I put anymore time into this, can someone point me to a site / info on this model or similar? All leads much appreciated.

I don't find a model 702X in Beitmans, Riders, or Sams... are you sure about the number?

Bet it looks something like this. On this vintage (This RCA radio is from 1951) the "X" should be at the front of the number. I don't have any info on your specific radio Barry, but this might get you closer. Here's the link about it:

Thank you, Nolan. I just brought this radio in from the garage for the winter and decided to follow-up on my post. This is, indeed, the radio - despite differences in model numbering. Mine does not have the tweed material on the face, and there is no sign it was ever there. Mine needed very little in work to refresh it, but it took garage duty as it is a little on the homely side. It is very reliable, playing a few hours each week while I wash cars. I expect it will have a long life.
