With electrolytic capacitors, you can use the same (or somewhat higher) value for capacitance and voltage. Don't go lower. Don't go crazy. For example, replacing 20 mfd with 22 is fine; replacing 20 mfd with 100 is silly.

Bob just P.M. me if your interested, I could probably even deliver it, I'd like to see your collection some time anyways. Ok who wins the ebay auction? Obviously we can all go our own way and pay way too much or we can figure it out here. I will settle for for an insert only if we can make this work. I also may want help hand lettering the knob. My hands are shaky as hell and that is something I have to get someone else to do. Usually I give that kinda stuff to my wife LOL. Any suggestions? Does Lynyrd want the knobs too?
I'm only interested in one of the red knobs. Even then it's for a project I might not get to for a year so no big deal. That being said, I'm currently the high bidder. So one of you guys will either need to outbid me (or someone else) or let me try to win and I'll mail out the knobs to who ever needs them.

Ok now I got the paper caps replaced, what should I do about the Selenium Rectifiers? I know they should be replaced with diodes but I have no clue what they should be. Kind of a newbie at this TV stuff. I saw the article by Phil but there was not enough information as to what diodes and a good close-up of the process. Any help would be appreciated. No I do not plan on bidding on the knobs and will wait until I decide if they are that important right now they are not.

1N4007 diodes are a great choice. They can handle 1000 V at 1 Amp. More than enough for this set and they're cheap

I've been outbid on the knobs so I'm out of the running.

I have some GE 510's 1000v 2.5A and some D-6's on hand not sure what they can handle.
Also an IRC d5 dual diode and an IRC d4 dual

Bob,
Have you had to add a resistors in with that 1N4007's to bring down the voltage or is just throwing in the diode been working out? Have you done anything different on any of your Motorola sets?

I didn't use any series resistors in any of my sets after reading that others hadn't either. My B+ is a few volts higher than called for, but they all for fine.

It certainly doesn't hurt to add one though. Something around 50-100 ohms at 5W in series with each diode should work fine.

I was wondering about the resistor too. Read where a lot say to do it but I see Phil never did it on his. I picked up some rectifier diodes at radio shack, 1.5A 1000v. Appears they should do the ticket.
