Anyone Know This Blonde?

She's a blonde, looks good and in great shape, but before i take her home to mom,i need to know if she's okay.
This is a 1954 Stromberg Carlson set.It is another one of Ebays Gems and it does look pretty good. The thing of it is i know nothing about this type of tv as far as what is the most common problems you have.So if anyone can give me any type of info on this, would be a great help.I know nothing about it except that it doesn't work.I would also like to know what a fair price would be to bid on it?

I think this may get you there if you want to look.
Thanks,Don.

The average console tv from the mid-fifties is worth, well, about the $5 starting bid on this set. But this is not the average set, thanks to that great cabinet. I don't have any experience with Stromberg-Carlson tv sets but everything else I've seen was built like a tank. This isn't junk.

The worst thing that could be wrong is the picture tube could be bad. I don't think this one would be too tough to find, though. The set will certainly need recapping; could be some other problems but nothing that couldn't be taken care of.

Price? I'm a tightwad-I think $50 would be a good deal for a nice looking set like that. It is worth what you are willing to pay.

Thanks for the fast reply. It is listed as a 23 inch screen.I didn't think they were over a 21" in the early 50's but i was just a kid then.Well i can handle the caps, but finding a tube if i need it may be something else. The reserve on it is about 4 times that is the reason i needed some idea of what was a fair price for it.I don't even know if its the model they say it is.The more info, i get on it, the more i'll know.

The larger screens available at the time were 24" and 27". When I first looked at it yesterday I thought it looked like a 24 incher.

Well did some more research on this and after looking at old ads and such i found out that the 21 inch and the 24 inch were made so i don't think the listing is right. I can't find anywhere that a 23 inch was made. I would say you are right about it being a 24 inch screen. The other thing i think it was called the EMPIRE. I emailed for the model number but no response on that yet. Anyone happen to know that? Thanks,Don.

It is not surprising that the measurement would be off. What with the safety glass in front you could only get an approximate measurement, plus the advertised sizes were not real accurate until about 1969/70 when the government stepped in.
