body found in front of TV year after death

...i double checked the date on this one to be sure it was todays news! seems like we had a thread like this maybe 6 months ago. How can this happen tho? At my shop we have an older tech, he should be retired but he doesnt want to just stay home (ya know what, ill probably be the same way) and he;s a genious at electrical probems, so he faithfully comes to work everyday. He doesnt have a phone so if he;s out for more than a day ill personally go to check on him( and usually meet someone else from the shop there doing the same)...so how does someone go unnoticed for a year! Thats too sad.

HAMPTON BAYS, N.Y. - The partially mummified body of a man dead for more than a year has been found in a chair in front of his television, which was still on, authorities said.

Vincenzo Ricardo, 70, apparently died of natural causes, said Dr. Stuart Dawson, Suffolk County’s deputy chief medical examiner.

Police found Ricardo’s body this week when they investigated a report of burst pipes.

The home’s dry air had preserved his features, morgue assistant Jeff Bacchus said.

“You could see his face. He still had hair on his head,” Bacchus said.

Ricardo’s wife died years ago, and he lived alone, Dawson said.

“He hasn’t been heard from in over a year. That’s the part that baffles me,” he said. “Nobody sounded the alarm.”

Neighbors said they had thought Ricardo was in a hospital or nursing home.

“We never thought to check on him,” said neighbor Diane Devon.

Yeah, it's sad alright. Shows what little respect (and caring) that some neighbors have for others.

Probably will be how I go...only with a soldering iron in one hand and a roll of Kester 44 in the other.

If it was a Zenith made any time before 1990--or by any chance a GE made before 1960--yes.

You'd think the utility companies would have cut off the power after not being paid for a year.

You would think something ANYTHING would have triggered concerns and someone would have called the authorities. For one, what are the odds someone is so isolated from the rest of humanity that nobody notices he is dead?

Some of my neighbors think I'm dead... As far as the utilities are concerned, he probably had auto pay set up on his bank account.

I hope he wasn't subjected to too many reruns and repeats...

Seems like I remember reading about some woman in England who was dead 3 years before they found her...Think it was here. IIRC, Benny Hill lived alone & was dead about a week when they found him...
