1949 RCA TV console with 2 Phonos
Over the years, I've had a few people ask about the late 1940s RCA TV Combos with the 2 phonographs (45 RPM and the larger turn-table).
I just spotted a pair (!) in Quincy, Indiana, listed on ebay. There's a reserve, but I wouldn't think it would be too high. The auction is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=230104767979 Good Luck! Harry |

Well, that brings back some memories. That set (or one quite like it) was actually my "first" old TV, before I became a serious collector. It was 1978 and I had a few old radios but had never paid any attention to old TVs. I spotted it on the lawn at a neighborhood yard sale. I remember that I paid $6 for it. It lived in my garage. When I moved I shut the garage door behind me and for all I know it's still in there. A friend who was a fellow collector always used to tease me that it was "perfect for storing canned goods!"

This reminds me of the time a neighbor tossed an RCA console that was a TV set and had, on the side of the TV chassis, an AM radio sub-chassis strapped on the side. It was the standard AA5 tuner design, 6BE6 and 6BA6 converter and IF stage. A length of shielded cable was used to get the IF signal to a diode detector tube section deep inside the TV chassis. Don't remember for sure if there was a record player, think there was. Thus was like 35 years ago when i was a young pup looking to scrounge parts for ham radio transmitters and such... I did salvage the AM tuner section but it disapeared years ago...
