What can you tell me about this radio?

I purchased this GE radio through an ad in the local paper. It has tubes. It works. On the front it reads "Stereophonic High Fidelity" The paper tag on the back is torn and the model# is not available. The speakers are powered through the hinges. When you unhinge the speakers, you use RCA cables to power them. It sounds pretty good. It is in good condition. Any help with a model# and the age would be great. I plan on keeping it, I want to be able to tell people its history when they see it.

Thanks, Mark

I forgot to mention it has stereo inputs in the back for a phonograph.

Lessee..IIRC, the FCC OKed stereophonic broadcasting on FM in 1961, I'd say this radio is early-mid '60s....It kinda has that "Danish Moderne" look to it that was all the rage then, as well...

I had this radio or a similar one, model RC-something. If you can list the tubes, I might be able to find a schematic. I recall the amp being (2) 6AQ5, 12AX7, 6CA4, and the tuner board having all 12V tubes.

You may have hit paydirt Tom.

Amp: 2)6AQ5, 2)12AX7, 12AT7

Tuner: 6EZ28, 6EW6, 2)6AU6, 6BA6

Does that get us any closer to a model#?

I have the same model with the silver front panel. It is a GE model T1000B/C or T1001C/D depending on finish. I have a Photofact service manual for it. If you need scans of the schematic send me a PM. The date on the manual says 3-63.

Smile GE Stereophonic receiver

I just picked up, what I assume, is an earlier version of that model. It has the a Zenith TO type dial and Stereo Eye; it has only half the info sticker on the back: says it's walnut and the power rating is 85 watts; speakers look like 6 inch full range types; no model number; I was going to sell it or scavenge the amp, but I'd feel bad ripping it apart when it's in such good condition.
