Found Zeneth Tombstone Blue Catalin Radio

Gentlemen, just thought I would let you know about my latest find. I found this in my fathers basement. It has been sitting there for years. Never thought much about. With my mothers failing health I started cleaning out the basement. I never had an idea of the value.

Why the bids on this? What makes it so special? I do not follow antique radios but just read the thread and an curoius.

Wow, thats extrodinary!

The shipping company better quadruple box that one and be sure and insure it well. (Hell for that money I would consider delivering it in person.)

Pretty magnanimous of the Seller to absorb the additional shipping costs ... since the bidding started at $.99 ... and now sits at $4,150 ... he probably thought he had a $30 radio.

I wonder how he was going to pack and ship it if the bids were lower. Let's see - usps for $4,150 and ups for $2.50. I do understand the possibility of his popping it in a box and having a professional pack&ship do it. He offloads the liability to the pack&ship company when it gets to the new owner in kit form.

Eh, I don't think it's the OP's radio, he said it was a Zenith and the auction is for an Emerson. Frankly I didn't know Zenith made any Catalins but I'm no Catalin expert.

Brian, Catalin is a very special plastic with a magical translucent quality and amazing colors. Look it up on Wiki etc. It's quite collectible, insanely so.

I found a $25 catalin awhile back that sells for $500+. I'll keep it for awhile, it's nice.

Here's a pretty informative page devoted to Catalin. I never gave it much thought, to be honest. I checked my collection to see if I had any, but...nope.
