Remote Control Tansplant ?

Here is another odd ball/stupid question. I was wondering if a person ran across a set that was only good for parts that had the remote control unit intact, and they had a similar working TV (make, year etc..), but the set didn't come with that feature, could the remote unit be transplanted into the good set ?

Great question.... Many 80s sets I've seen have the markings on the boards for remote and extra input jacks, etc but they are the cheaper model. I'm sure it can be done, especially if the parts are interchangeable (like Zeniths boards may have been at some point)

I guess you'd have to add-on a small supply for the standby xformer/rc circuit and then just add features as necessary...like volume channel....

On modern sets this may be quite a challege if the micro isn't capable of receiving remote info or if the tuner isn't fun to work with...

In certain older models I don't think this would be hard at all. It might have even been available as a dealer-installed option? The newer the set the more complicated it becomes.

It's fairly easy on Zeniths up to 1974 (when they changed to the upright chassis). I added a Space Command 500 to my 25DC56, and it looks factory-original. The chassis and cabinet is identical on remote and non-remote models; only difference on mine was the access door which did not have the hole for the microphone. But I swapped the door from the donor set.

The above may not be true for any other sets. RCAs had a totally different setup, for instance.

There is a remote setup on ebay now, but I do not remember the item number. It was a sc400 I think. Transmitter, Receiver, controls, and hardware. You might do a search.
