RCA date of manufacture?

I brought this home because of its size and lines, it just looks right.

I did a search just to get an idea of what year it would have been made,

but nothing turned up with this model number 9W95. Any one have an idea?

Lower left is a pullout TT, lower right is the speaker, upper left had something

but its now gone. Thanks

Hello,

This is a Canadian made model (as printed on the yellow label), that
is why you did not find the model number. I have a CD-rom of
Canadian made radio schematics that covers 1938-1948, and that
is fairly complete, but this unit is not included. If you look at the
selector, you see a 33-78 position, and another one that says 45.
RCA introduced the 45 RPM disc around 1948 and they marketed
their own dedicated changer, for those 7-inch discs with a big
central hole only. This must be what is missing inside the cabinet.

From these facts I would say that the date is circa 1949-1951.
Furthermore, the requirement for a receiver license in Canada was
lifted about 1952 (I think it was lifted just before TV broadcasting
started in September of that year, but I am not so sure).

Your best bet to find info regarding this unit would be a collection
of Radio College of Canada supplements. Good luck.

By the way, the radio chassis seems to have a three-section variable
capacitor, which suggests that this is a better than average radio
with a RF amplifier stage.

P.S. The patent date of 1949 also gives this as the earliest possible
year for this radio.

Great points made regarding the license and custom 7 inch player.
Thanks for the help.
