Can someone give me a Philco model #?

The set on the bottom of the stack is a 1956 Philco. That is all I know since the back and tube layout are one in the same and have been missing for years. I have posted in the past looking for the plastic piece bearing the Philco name and the small knobs that it covers. I am still looking. The model # may make my search for a Sams folder successful as well as the hardware. Thanks in advance for any help...

Hi Tube...

Seeing as there have not been a whole lot of replies to your request I'll see if I can help. My sams are located in a different state so I checked my 1956 Beitman's. Do you have a chassis number? There were several for that year (330, 390, 394, 440, and 444). Here are some model numbers for a 21 inch set that might work:

22D4030
22D4034
22D4148
22D4156
22D4162

I hope some of these numbers help.

Steve

Philco Model 4136?

Steve, Your #s did help. There is a paper glued to the chassis that bears the following #'s: 22D4136X, Code 330, E2513. I have a 1956 newspaper add that calls the set a Model 4136 but someone once replied to a post saying that Philco's model #s dont run like that. I guess the papers and mags used a shortened version of the model #. Now all I need is a Sams folder, some small knobs, a CRT, and a back cover. A fellow member had most of the items I need but I havent heard anything out of him. I'm feeling it slip through my fingers. Another person has a NOS CRT but I'm too weary of getting a box of glass fragments care of UPS. If I could get the smaller items I need I could nurse the CRT for several more years of limited use. Anyway thanks for the #s and any other info you may have on these excelent performers.

The Sams folder for a Model 22D4136X is 325-9. Good luck on finding the parts you need to finish this set.

Steve, are you really just wishing me luck in general or are you saying the parts will be more difficult than the norm to locate? I have noticed never hearing much about such sets. I figured maybe they were just too plain jane or run of the mill to generate much interest. I will say I have had nearly zero luck finding the plastic Philco nameplate and small control knobs which I need more than anything. Oh well, maybe someday......

I am wishing you luck in general. That's the problem with forums, one misses the intonation of language and all the nonverbal language cues, oh well. I am back in Wisconsin now and have access to my photofacts. If you wish I can look up some of those part numbers for you.

Thanks Steve, you are right in what you said about sometimes not getting the true meaning of a statement on the web. Anyway on this particular set I need things like the back cover and the plastic front nameplate. I dont really know what I would do with the part #s for those pieces. Unless there is a business out there that keeps one hell of an inventory and utilizes the correct factory part #'s to keep track of it all. I know places like Moyer still keep old flybacks and yokes. They can get your part #s based on your model #. Pretty amazing I think. Just that someone would have access to all that info or even bother with it for that matter considering what must be a very limited demand for say a 50 year old yoke. Thank God they do though. I guess I was thinking that I would have to rely on someone having spare stuff just sitting around who is familiar with such sets and wanting to make a few bucks. I havent had much luck so far. If I need the #s I will drop you a line. Or if you know where I can put those #s to work send them on. I need the little knobs behind the plastic piece as well.

Thanks

You don't have to worry too much about the parts-I am reasonably sure I have the nameplate, probably the knobs, the backcover should work, and the crt if you want it...trust me, your name is on it! We just need to find a way to get it to you. If you want I can ship everything but the crt and worry about that later. I would like to see you be able to get that NOS one, not so much because I don't want to part with mine but because I think it would be better for you in the long run. Really, I have enough parts here (with 3 sets) to make 2 good ones; one has a wired remote setup and another has factory UHF. I think it would be ashame to toss them; I don't have room to keep more than a the table model, however, and even that is tight.

Hi Bryan, thanks for the reassurance on the parts. Yes I wish I had a good answer for getting that stuff. With gas prices the way they are it would probably be cheaper to ship the thing than to come to get it. The back, knobs, and, plastic would be an easy shipment. Like you I hate to toss anything. At least anything that is still usefull and knowing somebody somewhere would love to have it is always an issue. I think the next time I decide to scrap a set I will take it to Goodwill where at least it will have a chance at someones interest. I give a lot of sets to a collector when he is in town. I havent heard from him in a while. He is from Richmond. I should E-mail him and see how close he comes to your area in Maryland. What is the name of your town?

Is this the same set?

One on eBay looks pretty close to the same?

Yep, thats the set. Mine has the wood cabinet. My set has a round plate on the bottom that deems it a "swivelette" set. I have never seen the bottom half. One day I'm at the thrift store and I spot a swiveling top table that had to be made for a fifties television. Two dollars later I have my Philco on that table and it really looks great. When I find all the stuff I need I plan on putting the set back into light use. These sets are good utility sets. Rock solid reception and sync stability all the way. Very simple transformer style chassis. Easy to remove with plug in yoke. I love sets with a yoke socket and a power transformer.
