Help identify!
This monster is local. What is it? It looks high-end. Pay no attention to the drapery being used for a grille cloth. Looks like two eye tubes. Midwest is my guess.

The picture from the back, looking at the speaker and amp frame, I would bet Atwater Kent. I'd put a few bucks on it, too.

I've been trying to email this person with no luck so far. It looks like it has two tuning eyes to me too, but in posting to other forums no one can think of one that does, aside from the EH Scott masterpiece or whatever it was called. The blue chassis tag also has me betting on Midwest as well. Let us know if you have any luck contacting them.

Found it! It is a Sparton model 1268! I found this page while trying to ID another Craigslist photo for a GE radio:
http://www.tuberadioland.com/sparton1268_main.html Glad I wasn't going crazy-I knew it had two tuning eyes! Now, if only one of us could get the darn thing... |

That looks like a really high quality set. Post some pics if either of you get it!

Stay tuned boys and girls! After several much delayed emails, he says he is going to deliver it tomorrow afternoon. It was touch and go waiting for the news. Now we have a storm coming. Pix when it arrives as I am not going anywhere. Maybe a variac test just for fun. And a quick change of that drapery grille cloth.
Looking at the schematic, I can only find one 6E5 eye tube. A mystery.

Gorgeous colorful dial on that thing. Sparton made some nice sets, although I've only owned a tabletop or two. Chassis looks like a monster in that thing. How many tubes? Did you go through with your variac test?

Definitely a high-end Sparton. I beleive it might have a mirrored dial. It has one eye tube, and the other eye position is an indicator for electric tuning, IIRC. A very desirable set. Nice find!
