Hallicrafters DD-1 on MPLS CL

I think it would be safe to say this would be a bargain at 5X the price. An actual Hallicrafters DD-1 "Dual Diversity" radio. Hen's teeth are common compared to this: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ele/1002146819.html

^^NO S#!T!!!

I'm almost...ALMOST tempted to sell off my entire studio to grab that. It's probably the last chance I'll ever have.

EDIT
Looking again at the ad, I'm struck by the wording: "That looks like this..." I have to wonder: Is the pic he's posted the rig he's selling, or just a pic he grabbed from elsewhere on the 'net?

Hmmm...quite possible. But, then again, even a junker DD-1 would probably be worth $500. It'd be interesting to find some provenance on the radio. Did you note the QSLs on the wall in the background?

Too late - the ad is already gone.

Drat! Now my curiosity has been ignited. That photo was cribbed from www.radioblvd.com. Been reading an article there about the restoration of a DD-1 at the Western Historic Radio Museum. One photo is of a DD-1 console version being worked on, and a cropped version of that photo was used in the CL ad. The QSLs in the background match! Still...I wonder if the ad was for a real, junker DD-1? An answer to that question is now lost in the mists of cyberspace.

A REAL DD-1 is about worth its weight in gold...

Just for grins, I threw the URL into the Internet Wayback Machine. (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php) No page was found. CL ads must have a very short half-life and difficult to keep a running archive of.

Very puzzling, for sure. I guess if I had something like that to list and it was a near-basket case, I'd post a pic of present condition and a copied pic of an original or restored example. $500 would be very reasonable even for a hulk, since DD-1s are kinda the CT-100 of the Ham Radio world....what, less than 200 produced over 70 years ago? Quite the piece any way you look at it. If I was intending to scam somehow, I'd be asking a ton more than $500.

craigslist is a venue for face to face sales. youd be suprised how many folks still dont have digital cams or can barely use a computer enough to just make it to craigslist. might be a legit thing. anyways.. its gone now. bummer.

The only other Hallicrafters that I can think of that is as coveted is the 1954-55 SX-88 that goes for mega-megabux. Joe Walsh, the rock star, & dedicated ham has one, IIRC, he gave about $8K for his. I have a rare Hallicrafters, too, an SX-73, it was their most expensive set, $975 in 1951-53, few of them were made, either. It was built to compete w/the Hammarlund SP-600 commercial/military set. In fact, it has the same military designation as the SP-600, R-274D/URR. They come up on Da Bay 3-4 times a year.
