I Need a Picture Tube
I picked up the free Philco 2138 (1951) from the fellow in Larchmont, NY that was posted in the Swap forum. They were really nice guys, unfortunately, when loading the tv in my car he brushed up against the neck of the CRT and broke off the plastic cap! I thought that it would not be a problem to repair, but when I checked upon my arrival home the wires are broken off at the glass making reconnection impossible.
Now I've got the set, but I will not start restoration until I locate a tube. Sooooooo.... I need a 20CP4 or any version for replacement, 20CP4A, 20CP4B etc. If anyone has one sitting around it would be much appreciated. BTW the set is in beautiful condition. |

Reconnection may be difficult but is usually not impossible...you can often tape wires to the tube neck with electrical tape and then feed them in through the glass to make contact with the nub of the wire left inside the seal on the tube...I have done it with success.
You may be able to also get a little solder on the connection area, too. This is a 1951 tube so there is probably not too many connections to have to make. Only problem is there may be micro-cracks in the glass which may allow the vacuum to slowly leak out over the period of a year. I think it would be worth a try to reconnect, especially if the CRT was supposed to be good before the accident. |
