Hallicrafters 505 7" Set

I found this set at an estate sale on the north west side of Chicago on Friday for $60.
I always liked these Hallicrafters sets, they're my favorite 7" sets and I always liked TVs with push button tuners too.
I also have a 12" Hallicrafters tabletop set from about 1949 that's in pretty bad condition though.

This set looks pretty complete, though the safety glass (or plastic?) that was in front of the CRT is missing. It looks like there was some work done on the chassis, there is a large multi-section power resistor on the top that looks to have been replaced with some individual resistors. Somebody also redid the cheater cord so it would stay attached to the chassis then the back was removed (I have the back for the set).
The cabinet will need some work, the top has some scratches.
This is my only 7" set so I can't see if the CRT is good, I used to own a Motorola VT-71 set, but I sold it years ago.

Interesting that the tube chart has a correction where a octal tube was replaced with a 7 pin. I saw on Phil Nelson's site that the earlier versions of this set used a lot more octal tubes.

Someday I hope to get this working, but it will be a while before I have a chance to take a closer look at it.

Rumor has it Channel One still has NTSC on it, & always will...An' they play all sorts of neat stuff..The 4th season of Gilligan's Island, where they finally get off the island...The several seasons of "Twilight Zone" & "Outer Limits" that were in color...The 4th season of "Lost in Space" where THEY get to go home, too, Major West knocks up Judy, John finally gets a bellyful of Dr. Smith & decks him..."Star Trek" ran for 15 seasons, so we were spared all those dreadful "spin-off" shows & insipid movies..(grin)
